Welcome to the Enterprise Education Foundation
Welcome to the Enterprise Education Foundation's website! Our intent with this website is to keep you informed of things that the Foundation is working on.
First, lets give you a little bit of history on the Enterprise Education Foundation. The Foundation was formed in 1998 when the State of Oregon cut funding to rural schools throughout Oregon. When this happened, Enterprise was forced to cut the art, music, vocational agriculture, and home economic classes for kids in grades K - 12. Five families got together, and decided that this cut was not acceptable, and started the process on what could be done to save these programs. The founding members of the EEF were the families of Roy Garten, Mike Wiedeman, Randy Strohm, Jim Dawson, and John Hillock. Out of these founding members Mike is still active on the Board, while the other families still support the EEF in other ways!
Since the inception of the EEF, the programs have been saved, and the friends of the EEF, past alumni, our small community and various other people continue to support the EEF.
The EEF is working 12 months out of the year trying to find different ways to raise money. Our newest project is the bingo night on November 7th, in conjunction with the Elk's Lodge's steak and oyster feed. We are still planning the Winter Classic and Oregon Trail basketball tournaments, casino night, escrip, Pledge Drive, WE LOVE OUR KIDS dinner auction and applying for various grants.
What is the Art Department working on???
Kacie Recla moved to Ontario area last year after getting married, but we were able to hire a fantastic new art teacher, Ms. Laurie Hueckman. Ms. Hueckman's elementary students are concentrating on the basic elements of art and drawing, while her high school classes are working on a variety of projects. Ms. Hueckman asks her students to draw in a sketchbook every day.
A native of John Day where she's lived most of her life, Hueckman received a master of education degree from EOU as part of a 13 month program that combined being both a full-time student teacher and a student.
We look forward to having Ms. Hueckman as our K - 12 Art Teacher!
EEF's Turkey Bingo pairs with the Community Bank and the Elk's Steak and Oyster Feed!
The first annual Turkey Bingo was held on November 7th. This is a new event for the Enterprise Education Foundation, and we were pleased with the community response to our first Turkey Bingo! We gave out certificates for 20 turkeys, and the big winner of our $100 gift certificate to Dollar Stretcher in Enterprise was Amy Bathke. Thank you to Community Bank for your sponsorship of this fantastic new event for the Enterprise Education Foundation!
Basketball Tournaments
The EEF puts on two different basketball tournaments in the winter. The Winter Classic is sponsored by Sterling Savings Bank and is an opportunity for our area schools to enjoy a double elimination tournament. This tournament will be held December 11th and 12th. As in the past, this event is sponsored by Sterling Savings Bank. The Oregon Trail Classic will be held December 28th and 29th. This year, Red Lion Hotel is sponsoring the event, and we will have several schools competing for top position.
Elk's Crab feed pairs with the EEF to host a Casino Night!
With the wildly successful first Casino Night for the Enterprise Education Foundation under our belts, plans are already in place for our next casino night! Date is set for February 13th, so mark your calendars and come early and eat crab!
We Love Our Kids Dinner Auction
On April 2, 2010, we will have our 6th Annual WE LOVE OUR KIDS dinner auction. Last year, we were fortunate enough to raise just under $16,000. The proceeds from this auction went directly to the fine arts programs. We received some really great donation items from our local businesses and community members. Dinner was a generous portion of prime rib cooked by Zane and Jess Anderson, with side dishes provided by the Elk's Lodge and the Cubs baseball team serving the sold out dinner! The kids are very fortunate to have the support of their community!
The Pledge Drive
The Pledge Drive continues to be a success! Our first pledge drive was very well received by alumni, locals, friends of the EEF, businesses, and estates. It is heart warming to see the support year after year that people provide to the EEF. Our first Pledge Drive we asked people to pledge $300 a year for 5 years. The 5th year of the Pledge drive was in 2007, and we again asked people to continue their Pledges. The Pledges are very important to our continuation of the community goal of providing art, music, home economics and vo ag to our students. Please contact us if you would like more information on how to pledge your support or you may mail in a pledge to Enterprise Education Foundation, PO Box 296, Enterprise, OR 97828.
PacifiCorp Grant Recipient
The Foundation was again awarded another $1,000 grant from PacifiCorp in 2009. This money will be utilized in the K - 6th grades specifically earmarked towards science projects. K - 3rd grades will be putting a deer fence around their garden. Seems as if the deer think those kids do a good job growing their dinners! 4th - 6th grades will be purchasing magnets, pulleys and levers, and solar kits.
We were awarded $2,000 in 2008 which was used to restock the K - 12 art department with much needed supplies after the art program had been basically non existent up to that point.
In 2007 we were awarded $2,000 which was used to replace the existing piano that is kept in the Multipurpose Room for operettas, concerts, and plays. Thank you also to Welch Music in Boise for their generous donation for the balance of the piano donation. Also, thank you to Karleen Gomes who made a padded, embroidered cover to protect the piano.
The Enterprise Education Foundation would like to thank PacifiCorp for their continued support of the Enterprise kids!
Safeway eScrip Program
The EEF has also been very active in getting people signed up for escrip. Escrip is a free and a very easy way to send money back to the Enterprise Education Foundation. Simply register your card with the EEF as your beneficiary and Safeway and its partners will send a percentage of your eligible purchases to the EEF.
Please see our FUNDRAISERS PAGE (link at the top of the page), for ways that you can help!
Enterprise Elementary Music
Welcome to our new music teacher Ms. Wendy Stauffer.
"My name is Wendy Stauffer, and I’m delighted to be a part of Enterprise School District. I grew up as the oldest of 5 children, but also have 2 adopted brothers that are about 10 years older than me. My parents are self-employed as Stauffer’s Refinishing. They gave each of us the opportunity to learn about and be a part of the business, and taught us how to work hard and to care for the things we have. My family moved to Elgin when I was 7, where I took piano lessons and played keyboard and percussion in band until I graduated in 2000. I attended EOU for the first three years of my college education, and had some awesome experiences, especially with the Grand Ronde Symphony. I transferred to the University of Idaho, which, among other things, has an excellent program for music education and percussion majors. I graduated in 2006 with a BS in Vocal and Instrumental Music Education with a K-12 endorsement plus a 6-12 Math endorsement. After working for the summer in Arizona at a Girl Scout horse camp, I taught 5th – 12th band, choir, general music, and some algebra in Cottonwood, Idaho, where I stayed for two years. After leaving Cottonwood, I worked in Grangeville for a year before moving to Enterprise. I hope to one day receive training for band instrument repair and open my own business while I continue to teach – either in the classroom or as a private instructor. I greatly enjoy teaching music and can see that these two things would compliment each other well.
I have always enjoyed being versatile, and have learned to play most instruments outside of the percussion family. Besides taking advantage of every music opportunity I can, I also enjoy quilting, cross-stitching, gardening and landscaping, reading, biking, and enjoying the outdoors. I have two cats, and am blessed to have parents and siblings who enjoy working and playing together often. I feel very blessed to be here in Enterprise, am really enjoying my new position as the elementary music teacher, and look forward to taking advantage of the many opportunities and joys the area has to offer."
We hope you can make it to the k - 6th grade Christmas concert December 16th, at 1 pm.
Other musical dates are December 10th, 7 pm, OK Theatre for the 5th, 6th, and Jr. High Band concert and December 17th, 7 pm, OK Theatre for the High School Music Concert.
