Welcome to the Enterprise Education Foundation

Welcome to the Enterprise Education Foundation's website! Our intent with this website is to keep you informed of things that the Foundation is working on.

First, lets give you a little bit of history on the Enterprise Education Foundation. The Foundation was formed in 1998 when the State of Oregon cut funding to rural schools throughout Oregon. When this happened, Enterprise was forced to cut the art, music, vocational agriculture, and home economic classes for kids in grades K - 12. Five families got together, and decided that this cut was not acceptable, and started the process on what could be done to save these programs. The founding members of the EEF were the families of Roy Garten, Mike Wiedeman, Randy Strohm, Jim Dawson, and John Hillock. Out of these founding members Mike is still active on the Board, while the other families still support the EEF in other ways!

Since the inception of the EEF, the programs have been saved, and the friends of the EEF, past alumni, our small community and various other people continue to support the EEF.

The EEF is working 12 months out of the year trying to find different ways to raise money. Our current projects include an ice cream social/come and meet and greet Kacie the new K - 12 art teacher which is the night of the Open House at Enterprise Schools, 1st annual chili cook off and dance with music provided by the Skyline Band, Winter Classic Basketball Tournament, Oregon Trail Basketball Tournament, Annual Pledge Drive, We Love Our Kids Dinner auction, Casino Night, escrip and applying for various grants.

What is the Art Department working on???

Kacie Recla, our new K - 12 FULL TIME ART TEACHER has been busy with the kids transforming the School Library to a Jungle Safari! Kindergarteners made hanging monkeys, first graders contributed creepy crawly bug (spiders and assassin bugs) cutouts, second and third graders made paper plate spiral snakes and leaves with centipede drawings on them, fourth graders worked on exotic watercolor flowers that hang on vines, the fifth graders made parrots, and the sixth graders created a jungle mural art. Junior High art students are in full-swing again. They are starting to study the elements of design and will move into painting soon. High School students are working on rubber block relief prints, creating approximately 12 final prints for a print exchange, and will move into a two-week long unit on silkscreen printing on articles of clothing. Great job Ms. Recla!

Elk's Crab feed pairs with the EEF to host a Casino Night!

Mark your calendars for February 7, 2009, for the Elk's Lodge/EEF Casino Night! There will be several casino tables and card games in the lower section of the Elk's Lodge. Fantastic prizes will be bidded upon at the end of the night with all of the nights winnings. Keep watch for more information!

We Love Our Kids Dinner Auction

On April 3th, 2009, at the Cloverleaf Hall in Enterprise, Oregon, we will have our annual dinner auction. At this event last year we raised over $21,000! The proceeds from this auction went directly to the art and music programs. We are already in the planning stages, and watch for a big celebration as the Enterprise Education Foundation celebrates its 10 year anniversary. Mark your calendars--you won't want to miss this event!

Basketball Tournaments

The EEF puts on two different basketball tournaments in the winter. The Winter Classic is sponsored by Sterlings Bank and is an opportunity for our area schools to enjoy a double elimination tournament. This tournament is usually the second weekend in December, and the EEF arranges for the hospitality room for coaches and refs, as well as clothing sales, and a club often gets the concessions for the teams and spectators. As in the past, this event is sponsored by Sterling Savings. The Oregon Trail Classic will be held January 2 and 3 in Pendleton. This year, Red Lion Hotel is sponsoring the event, and we will have schools from Sherman County, North Powder, Enterprise and Weston competing for top position.

The Pledge Drive

The Pledge Drive continues to be a success! Our first pledge drive was very well received by alumni, locals, friends of the EEF, businesses, and estates. It is heart warming to see the support year after year that people provide to the EEF. Our first Pledge Drive we asked people to pledge $500 a year for 5 years. The 5th year of the Pledge drive was in 2007, and we again asked people to continue their Pledges. The Pledges are very important to our continuation of the community goal of providing art, music, home economics and vo ag to our students. Please contact us if you would like more information on how to pledge your support or you may mail in a pledge to Enterprise Education Foundation, PO Box 296, Enterprise, OR 97828.

Grants and Donations

The Foundation was again awarded another $2,000 grant from PacifiCorp. We were awarded $2,000 last year which was used to replace the existing piano that is kept in the Multipurpose Room for operettas, concerts, and plays. The generous grant this year will be used to aid in the restocking of the art departments supplies for the art classes K - 12. Thank you to PacifiCorp for your grant! We are excited to purchase supplies for the kids!!

Safeway eScrip Program

The EEF has also been very active in getting people signed up for escrip. Escrip is a program that is offered thru Safeway that when you have your Safeway card registered, everytime you purchase something from Safeway, a percentage goes back to the Enterprise Education Foundation. Last year, through Safeway and eScrip, over $10,500 was donated back to our EEF. Signing up for eScrip is very easy--Visit Safeway and register your Safeway Club Card to benefit the EEF. If you prefer, you may contact us and provide us with your Safeway card number, and we will register your card for you. This is a FREE program that Safeway and eScrip offer - Safeway will contribute a percentage on EVERY item your purchase at NO cost to you.
